The Geological Survey of Brazil (SGB), through the Directorate of Geology and Mineral Resources (DGM), has successfully completed the recovery and data consistency of the Alta Floresta Mineral Province (Promin) project.
This project aimed to map the northern region of Mato Grosso and the southwest of Pará and relied on a consistency team to ensure the preservation of the scientific collection and guarantee access to the produced knowledge.
The Alta Floresta region, considered one of the country’s main gold provinces, underwent extensive geological mapping, regional geochemical surveys, and studies of the main gold deposits.
Covering an area of approximately 72,000 km², including localities such as Vila Guarita, Ilha 24 de Maio, Alta Floresta, and Rio São João da Barra, the project sought to deepen the geological and metallogenetic understanding of this region.
During the execution of the Alta Floresta Promin project, a total of 2,682 samples were collected and processed, including stream sediments, pan concentrates, rocks, and their corresponding analytical results. Despite the project being published in 2005, the data was not available in the SGB’s Institutional Database and remained in analog format.
The project coordinator, Alessandra Moreira, emphasizes that data consistency aims not only to preserve the scientific collection but also to ensure effective access to knowledge.
This includes recovering lost or unincorporated information into the historical acquisition process, as well as qualiquantitative verification of the complete collection of old and new information.
The pursuit of data integrity to be made available to the general public already defines the importance and motivation of the work carried out. With the advancement of the information age, underpinned by the digital world, society in its various segments has increasingly sought on-demand information, which highlights the need to ensure the integrity of data stored in databases and their structuring.
Reliable Information
Based on these premises, the data recovery of the Alta Floresta Promin, carried out by the consistency team, will allow better access to reliable information, which can be transformed into knowledge to benefit society as a whole.
The results of the data recovery can be accessed on the website of the Geological Survey of Brazil, on the GeoSGB platform, or in the Institutional Geosciences Repository (RIGEO).
This achievement represents a significant advancement for fostering new research in the Alta Floresta region by preserving and providing geological and mineral resource knowledge.
Access to reliable data is fundamental to drive sustainable development, foster investments, and support decision-making based on accurate information.
The Geological Survey of Brazil reaffirms its commitment to continue advancing access to and preservation of the country’s geological knowledge, contributing to the scientific, economic, and social progress of the nation.
