SGB to Conduct Auction of Prospecting Areas for Gold, Diamonds, and Agrominerals in the North and Northeast

Phosphate and Kaolin Among the Highlighted Minerals in Areas Discovered by the Geological Survey of Brazil

Multinational corporations and investors interested in the Brazilian mineral industry are about to encounter promising opportunities to expand their businesses in the country.

In the states of Tocantins, Pará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, and Bahia, mineral prospecting areas have revealed deposits of significant magnitude, including gold, diamonds, phosphate, kaolin, and agrominerals, as a result of surveys conducted by the Geological Survey of Brazil (SGB) between the 1980s and 1990s.

These strategic areas make up the five mineral assets that will be auctioned by the SGB on October 18th, at 10 a.m., through the Partnership for Investment Program (PPI) of the Presidency of the Republic.

The auctions for the five mining assets will be held by the Brazilian Geological Service (SGB) on November 23rd at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), located in Block U of the Esplanade of Ministries.

Inácio Melo, CEO of the SGB, emphasizes that making these areas available for investment is the realization of work that began more than three decades ago through the geological surveys conducted by the SGB. These areas represent a unique opportunity to drive socio-economic development in the regions covered by these mineral deposits.

Melo highlights:

The auctions represent a significant opportunity for these localities to receive investments and experience a new reality in the near future. It is important to clarify that the auctions are part of the first stage of the process, where interested parties make offers to acquire one of the available lots.

There will still be four other stages to be legally completed. However, even in this initial stage, the local economy will be stimulated in the short term, generating revenue through the products and services sector, considering the arrival of professionals who will be responsible for the second stage, which is mineral research.”

According to the experience of cities that have already gone through the process of auctioning mining assets by the SGB through the PPI, the stay of researchers from the second stage results in direct economic benefits to local communities.

These benefits include revenue generated in hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, and grocery stores, as well as the creation of temporary job positions.

Agrominerais Aveiro Project (PA):

The Agrominerais Aveiro project encompasses two projects of the SGB: Gipsita Rio Cupari and Calcário Aveiro. It consists of three gypsum mining processes covering an area of 2,887 hectares, located on the banks of the Cupari River, a tributary of the Tapajós River, in the municipality of Aveiro, in the state of Pará.

Research studies conducted by the SGB revealed the existence of deposits with mineral resources of over 350 million tons, with a high degree of purity. Additionally, there is a limestone deposit located on the banks of the Tapajós River, approximately 30 km from the gypsum areas, covering an area of 998 hectares and mineral resources of over 500 million tons of limestone.

The project was conceived to supply inputs to the agricultural sector, allowing the investor to exploit both limestone and gypsum in a single production unit.

The notice and detailed studies on the project are available at the following link: https://www.cprm.gov.br/publique/-7142.html.

Ouro de Natividade Project (TO):

The Ouro de Natividade project is located in the southern part of the state of Tocantins, 220 km from Palmas and 620 km from Brasília, covering an area of 3,925.73 hectares. Research activities conducted in the area during the 1990s included photointerpretation of regional features, geological mapping at scales of 1:5,000 and 1:1,000, excavation of pits and trenches, soil sampling with specific grids, and drilling of boreholes.

The results indicate a gold deposit with an average grade of 1.02 g/t and an analytical volume of 268,347.97 cubic meters, totaling 724,539 tons of ore.

More information about the project can be found at the following link: https://www.cprm.gov.br/publique/-7144.html.

Diamante Santo Inácio Project (BA):

The Diamante Santo Inácio Project is located in the central-northwest part of the state of Bahia, in the district of Santo Inácio, municipality of Gentio do Ouro. The project consists of five mining processes, covering a total area of 2,400 hectares. The research program, conducted between 1985 and 1989, included geological mapping, topographic survey, geophysical prospecting, over 7,000 meters of drilling, and the excavation of 22 research pits.

Recent studies estimate the occurrence of a deposit of approximately 245 million tons of diamond-bearing ore with a grade of 0.75 carats per hundred tons, totaling 1.8 million carats.

Additional details about the project can be found at the following link: https://www.cprm.gov.br/publique/-7147.html.

Fosfato de Miriri Project (PB/PE):

The Fosfato de Miriri project encompasses coastal areas in the states of Paraíba and Pernambuco, with mineral research conducted by the SGB-CPRM. These studies indicate a potential of 102.9 million tons of phosphate ore in seven mining processes covering 6,112.18 hectares, with an average grade of 4.19% P2O5.

Caulim no Rio Capim Project (PA):

The notice for the transfer of the kaolin ore area in the municipality of Ipixuna do Pará encompasses two researched areas: Bloco Sul and Bloco Norte, with a total of 10,000 hectares. In Bloco Norte, an estimated 574 million tons were identified, while in Bloco Sul, the total resources amounted to 218 million tons of kaolin ore, totaling approximately 800 million tons.
