The Office of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, through Decree 162/23, has established the Thematic Dialogue Forum on Mining in Brazil.
This initiative aims to foster discussions among the Federal Government, civil society, and the involved sectors regarding the social, cultural, environmental, and economic impacts of mining throughout the country.
The Dialogue Forum will be coordinated by the Directorate of Dialogue Forums within the National Directorate of Social Dialogues and Policy Articulation (NDSAPP).
Its primary purpose is to address issues related to the social, economic, environmental, health, and safety effects on workers in the mining sector.
Furthermore, the goal is to map the diversity of individuals and territories engaged in this activity. Complaints, social demands, and tracking of solutions will also have a place in the discussions.
The Dialogue Forum may forward proposals resulting from discussions to governmental bodies, entities, authorities, and other federative entities.
It will perform monitoring functions, ensuring transparency in achieved progress, and it might even mediate existing or emerging social conflicts. Stated the General Secretariat.
Among the potential initiatives of the Thematic Dialogue Forum are the organization of seminars, field visits, hearings and dialogues, thematic meetings, gatherings, and public hearings with representatives from civil society, public entities, states, and municipalities impacted by mining activity.
The coordination of the Dialogue Forum will be responsible for preparing an annual report containing information about its activities, analyses, suggestions, and recommendations.
This report will be submitted to the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Márcio Macêdo, through the NDSAPP.
