The National Mining Agency (ANM) has launched the public participation process for the development of the new 2025/2026 Regulatory Agenda.
With the publication of the Call for Subsidies No. 1/2024, ANM aims to engage society and key stakeholders in the mining sector in defining priorities and topics that will guide regulatory efforts over the next two years.
The process seeks to assess ongoing projects from the current agenda (2022-2024) that have yet to be finalised and identify new points of interest.
This initiative strengthens ANM’s transparency and regulatory governance, providing greater predictability and security for both the mining sector and society at large.
Contributions can be submitted until 2 October 2024 via the Participa + Brasil platform.
Call for Subsidies and the New Regulatory Agenda
The Call for Subsidies process launched by ANM primarily aims to collect suggestions and identify the most relevant demands for the construction of the next Regulatory Agenda (2025-2026).
This methodology allows both civil society and the regulated sector to actively collaborate in creating a more assertive and tailored agenda that addresses the challenges of the Brazilian mining sector.
In the current Regulatory Agenda (2022-2024), 10 projects have been completed, while 7 are in advanced stages of development, 6 are at intermediate stages, and 5 are in the initial phase. Additionally, one project has not yet been started, highlighting the need to reassess priorities for the coming years.
ANM also underscores the importance of reviewing the 21 indicative topics, of which 18 projects remain uninitiated.
The Call for Subsidies will help determine whether these projects are still relevant and how new topics can be incorporated to keep the sector aligned with best practices in governance and regulatory security.
Participation of the Mining Sector and Society
Public engagement is essential to ensure that the new Regulatory Agenda meets the sector’s real needs. To encourage participation, ANM has organised four virtual meetings open to the public via the Microsoft Teams platform.
Two meetings have already taken place, while the other two are scheduled for this week. These sessions are targeted at different audiences within the mining sector, allowing for a more focused and detailed approach:
- Session 1 (17/09/2024, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.): Focused on large- and medium-scale mining, concession, and authorisation regimes.
- Session 2 (19/09/2024, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.): Focused on small-scale mining, concession, authorisation, licensing, and artisanal mining.
- Session 3 (24/09/2024, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.): Dedicated to the mineral water sector.
- Session 4 (26/09/2024, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.): Targeted at public bodies.
