ANM Announces 8th Round of Area Availability

The National Mining Agency (NMA) has made public Notice No. 01/2024 regarding the 8th Round of Area Availability, opening opportunities for applications for research authorizations and mining concessions in specific areas outlined in the annex of the notice.

Schedule of the 8th Round of Area Availability

Clear Participation and Rules

Participation in this process will be exclusively through the ANM’s SOPLE platform (Public Offering and Electronic Auction System).

Interested parties must express their interest within the stipulated deadline, with guaranteed confidentiality to protect the participants’ confidentiality.

Each participant may express interest in up to 10% of the areas made available at the beginning of the bidding process, as highlighted in the announcement.

For areas without expressions of interest, the ANM will implement specific procedures, considering them open for new subsequent applications.

Distribution of Areas by State

  • Minas Gerais leads with the highest number of titles, totaling 687, of which 147 are mining-concession and 540 are research.
  • Goiás is in second place with 564 titles, distributed in 40 mining-concession and 524 research.
  • Bahia occupies the third position with 346 titles, including 21 mining-concession and 325 research.
  • States like Acre, Maranhão, Piauí, Roraima, and Mato Grosso do Sul have a smaller number of titles, all below 60.
  • Meanwhile, Espírito Santo and Rio Grande do Sul stand out with a significant number of mining-concession titles, totaling 87 and 22, respectively.

Strong Focus on Mineral Research

The predominance of titles focused on research suggests a solid interest and investment in mineral exploration and prospecting, reflecting a conducive environment for sector development.

The Federal District and Rondônia have a lower participation in terms of total titles, possibly due to the lower availability of mineral areas or reduced investment in mining.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Participants who fail to meet the obligations established in the announcement will face penalties, including:

  • Minimum fine of R$ 2,000.00;
  • Temporary suspension from participation in future procedures for up to 5 years; and
  • Disqualification from the bidding process, with the eventual annulment of the mining title awarded in case of victory.

Final Considerations and Transparency

The announcement seeks to ensure transparency, publicity, and predictability in the process of offering areas for mining, in compliance with applicable legal regulations.

The ANM, together with the Availability Procedures Commission, has established a clear schedule and steps to ensure compliance with current public policies and to meet the principle of impersonality.
