The National Mining Agency (ANM) and the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM) have signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement (TCA) to develop a training program aimed at the ANM’s technical staff. The agreement was signed on November 27 during a ceremony organized by IBRAM in Brasília. The initiative aims to promote knowledge sharing and enhance alignment between regulations, public policies, and advanced mining practices both in Brazil and worldwide.
The agreement, initially valid for five years with the possibility of extension, includes the provision of specialized training for ANM staff, such as lato sensu postgraduate courses recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), as well as short-term courses and activities. The goal is to strengthen the agency’s governance and improve its performance in combating illegal activities in the mining sector.
During the event, ANM’s Director-General Mauro Sousa emphasized the importance of the partnership: “Despite many challenges and difficulties, ANM has been striving to find solutions to its issues. 2024 was a year of intense partnerships, and we are very pleased to celebrate this agreement with IBRAM, which will allow us to provide qualified development opportunities for our staff.”
Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Dias Toffoli, who also attended the ceremony, praised the cooperation between the public and private sectors. He highlighted that this initiative is key to consolidating ANM’s technical structure, enhancing its performance, and combating illegal mining activities. “Society must work together with the State,” Toffoli stated, emphasizing the importance of the partnership between IBRAM and ANM.
The agreement’s signing marks a significant step towards the continuous improvement of technical training in Brazil’s mining sector, potentially enhancing ANM’s efficiency and strengthening governance in the country.
