The Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (ABDI) and the National Mining Agency (ANM) have taken a significant step toward modernizing Brazil’s mining sector. On Tuesday (3), the institutions announced the launch of two strategic projects focused on technology, with an investment of R$ 10.28 million. These initiatives aim to implement innovative solutions, including artificial intelligence (AI) and administrative modernization at the ANM, to optimize process analysis and accelerate the issuance of licenses in the sector.
The first project focuses on using artificial intelligence to automate the analysis of approximately 40,000 mining processes. This technology promises to improve decision-making by the technical team, providing quicker responses to the productive sector and improving the ANM’s internal workflows. This advancement has the potential to significantly reduce response times to sector requests, facilitating investments and making Brazil more competitive on the global stage.
The second project, centered on administrative and regulatory modernization at the ANM, aims to review and optimize the agency’s critical macroprocesses. The Fundação Dom Cabral has been contracted to assist the ANM in analyzing 135 resolutions and 15 ordinances, with the goal of making the agency’s management more agile and streamlined. These changes are expected to create a more dynamic business environment, reduce the so-called “Brazil Cost,” and attract new investments in the mining sector.
These initiatives are part of the “Destrava Brasil” program, which seeks to support regulatory agencies across the country in modernizing their internal processes by leveraging technological solutions to eliminate bottlenecks and provide faster responses to demands from the productive sector.
Ricardo Cappelli, president of ABDI, emphasized the importance of this partnership for the future of mining in Brazil. “The only way to achieve the development Brazil needs is by reducing bureaucracy and accelerating regulatory processes, allowing private investment to happen more quickly and efficiently,” Cappelli stated.
Tasso Mendonça Júnior, acting director-general of the ANM, highlighted the importance of mining and the need to modernize the agency’s processes. “Mining is often invisible to many, but its importance to the economy is undeniable. With these actions, Brazil can achieve extraordinary growth and showcase its full potential,” said Mendonça Júnior.
Additionally, the Destrava Brasil program aims to reduce the impact of delays in granting authorizations and licenses, a crucial factor for maintaining investment momentum in the country. Vandete Mendonça, manager of ABDI’s New Business Unit, explained in an interview that the program’s primary mission is to eliminate bottlenecks affecting the productive sector, fostering greater competitiveness and enabling approval processes to be carried out more quickly and efficiently.
The expected outcomes of these projects are promising, and modernization efforts at the ANM and the application of AI are anticipated to deliver significant gains to the mining sector and Brazil’s economy as a whole in the coming months.
The launch ceremony was attended by representatives from ABDI, ANM, and the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), which also highlighted Brazil’s enormous potential in the sector. The implementation of these technologies reflects a global trend toward digitalization and innovation, promising to transform how Brazil regulates its economic activities and prepares for future investments.
