Mine Closure Plan (PFM)

ANM Resolution 68/2021

The National Mining Agency (ANM) in conjunction with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, on May 04, 2021, published in the Official Gazette the ANM Resolution No. 68, of April 30, 2021, which regulates the new rules relating to the Mine Closure Plan – PFM and revokes the Mining Regulatory Norms No. 20.4 and 20.5 approved by the National Department of Mineral Production (DNPM) Ordinance No. 237 of October 18, 2001.

The resolution is a milestone in the sustainable improvement of Brazilian mining. The new rule created clear and transparent measures in addition to creating new standards for mine decommissioning.

The PFM is a mandatory element of every mining activity, and needs to be prepared and updated constantly. All studies and projects in the PFM are prepared in accordance with the standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards – ABNT and presented in detail so that it is possible to have a detailed characterization of the specific case and the technical proposal as a whole.
