Area Distribution of the 6th Availability Round

On September 15, 2022, the ANM published the Notice for the 6th Round of Availability of Areas for Artisanal Mining Permits Permissão de Lavra Garimpeira – PLG (Artisanal Mining Permits Round) with social evaluation. According to Edita nº1/2022, 420 areas will be offered, distributed in several municipalities, mostly in the North and Northeast regions, as shown in the map below, prepared by the ANM.

Classified as a “mining territorial ordering action”, the sixth round “aims at the regularization and formalization of mineral extraction in conflict areas, making possible the mineral exploitation work in accordance with the legislation after the granting of the title by ANM, which happens after the granting of the environmental license and necessary authorizations and consents for its validity”.

In this article, we will detail the geographic locations of the areas listed in the Announcement of the 6th Round of availability of areas for PLG.

The available areas are subdivided in 11 states such as Amapá, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraíba, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. Totaling 420 polygons, the state of Pará has the largest number of concentrated areas, according to the graph below.

The States of Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia and Tocantins received only 1 (one) area for Offer, being Paraíba do Sul, Campo Novo de Rondônia and Monte Santo do Tocantins respectively.
